Tobey Maguire is an American actor who has become best known for his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the Spider-Man films.

Maguire's parents split up when he was two, and he spent much of his formative years shuttled from relative to relative. Like so many actors he grew up feeling like an outsider, only comfortable onstage, prompting him to quit school after ninth grade and go into acting.

He has described his career as "stepping stones" - a short film he made got him small but respected films like The Ice Storm (1997) and Pleasantville (1998), which led to his starring role as Spidey/Peter Parker in the highly successful Spider-Man trilogy (2002-2007).

Maguire married his long-time relationship partner, jewellery designer Jennifer Meyer, on September 3, 2007, in Kona, Hawaii. The couple first met in 2003 while Maguire was shooting the movie Seabiscuit and became engaged in April 2006. They have a daughter named Ruby Sweetheart Maguire.
